Dedicated, Sophisticated, & Treasured, are just a few of the words to describe Soror Artexas Davis who is celebrating her 50th year of service in the illustrious sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and becoming the Chapter's first 50-Year Delta!

Soror Artexas Davis began her journey in the Phi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1957. During that time there was only one chapter of Delta Sigma Theta (DST) in the entire state of Iowa and Soror Davis was the lone candidate for membership at Drake University. When asked what it means to celebrate fifty years in the Delta sisterhood, Soror Davis said, “Delta has had such a dynamic affect on my life, and it is so rewarding to know that I will be a Delta forever. I know that I am a member of the greatest sorority and social service organization in the world.”
Throughout the years Artexas has been an active member in several chapters of Delta including the Westchester Alumnae Chapter in White Plains, NY (where she served with Sorors Eugenia Hayes and Soror Sandra Shelton-Chaney). She has also held several positions and chaired numerous committees during her tenure in DST. Some of which included being an advisor to the undergraduate chapter at Albany State University in Albany, GA, and participation in the Albany Alumnae Chapter. After leaving Albany to study at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, she became an advisor to the undergraduate chapter at University of Michigan. Currently, Artexas is an active member of MRAC and has served on several committees including Publicity, Arts and Letters, Physical and Mental Health, and Fundraising. Over the years, Soror Davis has diligently served and continues to serve the community and shows by example what it means to be a ‘Good Delta’.
In October, the Sorors of MRAC hosted a luncheon to celebrate the milestone with Soror Davis

As a Delta Dear, Soror Davis said, “I can appreciate having the opportunity to observe the significant contributions that the younger members are making to Delta and it makes me so proud to be a member and share in such greatness.” Soror Davis also boasted, “Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been my preference since I was in elementary school in Albany, GA. Delta women - especially those in Albany - were great role models for me and inspired me to maximize my potential and abilities towards success as an African-American woman. As I progressed through various life experiences it was always comforting to know that I had the support and love of my Delta sisters regardless of where I lived. It has been so rewarding to witness the positive results of our Delta community service projects and the impact our organization has had on the lives of people throughout the world.”
After earning a M.A. degree from the University of Michigan, Soror Davis began her employment with IBM in their corporate headquarters in Armonk, New York as an Employment Placement Counselor, College Recruiter, Info Systems Manager, Programmer, Info Systems Customer Services, and Info Systems Internal Account Manager. During her tenure in the Info Systems group, some of her work assignments included stints in Canada, Germany, France, England, and Japan.
