The ladies of Marietta-Roswell Alumnae are committed to encouraging and empowering the African American community to become financially literate and economically self-sufficient. Much like a successful gardener, we work to plant the seeds of financial success so that everyone can enjoy the fruits of their ideas, innovation and labor. We do this through the development and implementation of programs that address the Financial Planning and Consumer Literacy needs of our community.

Current Programs

Financial planning and literacy are the goals of the "Financial Fortitude." We strive to make the community smarter consumers and wiser financially by conducting workshops in the area of debt management/reduction, retirement planning, college education planning, investing, insurance, estate planning, home ownership and saving. A "Financial Fortitude" manual has been developed to assist with the implementation in the community.

DST  Habitat for Humanity Partnership:

In 1992, under the leadership of President Bertha Maxwell Roddy, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., partnered with Habitat for Humanity International to build 22 affordable and decent homes in each of the sorority's 7 regions during the 1992-1994 term. In doing so, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., became the first African-American organization to enter into partnership with Habitat for Humanity International.

That same year, Marietta-Roswell partnered with the Cobb County Habitat for humanity to build homes for needy families by empowering them to be self-sufficient and strengthening bonds within our community. By Establishing this partnership, MRAC assumed a leadership role in providing affordable housing for people of color.

Over the years, our chapter has volunteered on homes througout Cobb and North Fulton Counties. And today, Marietta-Roswell continues our commitment to building affordable housing within our community. We remain dedicated to continuing our 15 year relationship and you can find us on site helping to provide shelter for a family in need. Delta Challenge

Homeownership is the foundation for building wealth.  Real estate can create the path to financial freedom as a component of a diversified investment portfolio. The Delta Challenge can assist you in accomplishing your dreams and goals.

Goal:

  • Focus on closing the homeownership gap that exist in the African American community
  • Provide educational workshops and tools to help minorities make a real commitment to their financial goals
  • Provide tools to make real estate an integral part of everyone's wealth building strategy

Some of the tools that can help close this gap can be provided by organizations who have partnered with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in this initiative:

  • Genworth Financial Insurance - private mortgage insurance which allows purchases of homes with little to no down payment
  • Chase Home Finance - committed to helping individuals and families through the home mortgage approval process

Visit our Events Page for the next Delta Challenge event. Also visit www.deltachallenge@dstmrac.com  for more information.
