Teen Forum 2008:

MRAC's annual Teen Forum and College Showcase is a free event to the public for young people (ages 13 - 17). The interactive sessions, thought-provoking workshops and inspirational speakers strive to equip middle and high school students with the skills and information needed to succeed in our ever-changing world.
Our College Showcase hosts representatives from numerous colleges and universities from across the country who will be there to distribute information and answer questions.
We hope we can count on you to take part in our 22nd annual program on March 15, 2008. Online registration opens in January.

Dr. Betty Shabazz
Delta Academy
This fantastic program is aimed at young girls ages 11-14. The Academy was created out of an urgent sense that "bold action is needed to save our young females from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures". We encourage sisterhood which is defined as the development of service learning, commitment to public service and cultivating and maintaining relationships. A primary goal of the program is to prepare young girls for full participation as leaders.
To support this goal, MRAC has built our program around the following themes: mathematics/science, self-esteem, physical health/wellness, technology, leadership, community service, non-traditional careers and much more!
By Invitation Only:
Our invited guest are requested to join us for the 2007-2008 Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy Orientation Session on Sunday, September 16, 2007 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm in Community Room at the Smyrna Community Center.
Delta Academy Enrollment Package is available now.

Delta GEMS
GEMS, the acronym for
Growing and Empowering
Myself Successfully, was created to help African American girls realize their dreams. the program targets girls between the ages of 14-18 who are "at risk" of not achieving academic success.
.
The goals for The Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS Institute are:
-
To instill the need to excel academically; to provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;
-
To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures—high school and beyond; and
-
To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.
The Delta G.E.M.S. framework is composed of five major components (Scholarship, Sisterhood, Show Me the Money, Service, and Infinitely Complete), forming a road map for college and career planning. Topics within the five major components are designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth.
