Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an international public service sorority that is comprised of over 200,000 African-American women.  Encouraging young African-American women to achieve excellence through higher education is a primary focus of our organization.  We support this focus by awarding scholarships to young women who exemplify academic excellence, strong leadership, and community involvement.

 

Requirements

 

To be considered for the scholarship:

1. Applicants must be African-American female graduating seniors who live or attend school in Cobb, Cherokee, North Fulton, or Paulding County.

2. Applicants must attend an accredited college, university, or post-secondary institution in pursuit of a degree within one year of high school graduation.

3. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for a scholarship award.  Applicants are required to submit an official high school transcript in a sealed envelope.

4. Applicants are required to submit a typed essay that answers the following Essay Question: Choose a book or books that have affected you deeply and explain why.

5. Applicants will be required to attend an Image Building Workshop to be held in February, 2008

6. Applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation.

7. Selected applicants are required to participate in a panel interview (interview date: April 19, 2008).

8. Applicants are required to sign a Scholarship Funds Disbursement Disclaimer that reads: Awards are to be used for educational purposes only and funds will not be distributed until winners return the Student Enrollment Verification Form.  Funds will be disbursed in the name of the student AND the school.  Funds will be mailed to the school or the school’s bookstore.  No personal checks will be issued.

Incomplete packages

will not be considered for award.

Scholarship award given out in the past 2 years include:

1st place award  - $6,000.00
2nd place award - $4,000.00
3rd place award  - $3,000.00
4th place award  - $2,000.00

Deadlines & Important Dates

  • Completed scholarship applications must be postmarked on or before Monday, January 21, 2008, in order to be considered. 
  • Interviews will be held on April 19, 2008.  
  • A notification letter will be sent to all applicants by May 1
  • A reception will be held for the winners in May at a date and location to be determined.

IMAGE BUILDING WORKSHOP

This workshop strives to motivate, educate and build upon the youth's self-esteem. Through a forum, hosted by local role models a variety of topics will be discussed.
